So on saturday, me and the boy finally tried fatboy at upper thomson.
The first time we went there a few weeks back, the kitchen was closed. So now, after a foiled attempt to strictly pancakes, because it was full, we headed to fatboy. Simply because i wanted to try the burgers.
Lets digress abit. Why isnt there a superhero called fatboy or fatgirl? Maybe the name is quite unglam but if i was fatgirl, my superpower is to shoot chunks of food out of my hands and have laser eyes so that i can either cut the food pieces and heat up the food. And yeah i know there’s such thing called microwave and knives, but my powers are way cooler, no? Plus, with my powers, poverty does not exist in the world. And of course i can fly! How else to deliver food?
So, when we were there, we decided to built our own burgers. We can choose the type of buns that we want, meat, toppings as well as sauces. Being none the wiser, we each ordered our own burgers and ordered the chilli fries and calamari. They have milkshakes too! I had a vanilla shake with brownie nuggets! Fantabulous i must say! Every drop of the milkshake was finished! Anyway when the food came the burgers were bigger than carl jr’s, it came with fries and so seriously it was fries overload! The calamari were huge and soft, for me it was satisfying! I dont know why some foodblogs complain about the calamari, but hey to each his/her own, for me? No complains!
I think its best if i show u some pictures.. So finally! Picture post!
Dont be fooled by the photos, the portions are really huge! Needless to say, we both didnt finish the burgers. The burgers were excellent by the way, nicely done!
Anyway, i still havent had the chance to go strictly pancakes yet, because place is damn small but i heard it is good for brunch! Will try hatched and jones the grocer next!
Wanted to eat okonomiyaki today but there are very few places that actually specialises in diy okonomoyaki, and the one we checked out today apparently closed down. Went to sakae teppanyaki hoping that they have okonomiyaki but they were out of the batter! Grrrrrrrrr! Never mind, tmrw i’ll have my okonomiyaki revenge… Just need to find scapegoats to accompany me….
Ah screw it! I didnt wanna telly you the reason why i suddenly feel like eating okonomiyaki but fine.. I was watching one of takuya kimura’s show called good luck! And he played a pilot on the show.. To cut a long story short, he ate okonomiyaki fresh out of the hotplate and he was making it himself and he looked so darn handsome doing it, he really made eating it look good! I was salivating! I tell you, these korean and japanese shows and american tv probably add some subliminal imaging in them because bloody hell, i wanna have what they are having too! Why just the other day i was watching lee min ho in boys over flowers, and he was eating cup noodle and i actually made a trip to 7-11 to buy ramen! In the middle of the night! And it was a rerun episode too! And the other day i was watching city hunter and the same dude was eating kfc, wait he wasnt even eating, the fried chicken was just sitting in a box in front of him and i actually had kfc delivered! U getting the point?
Oh btw murni, okonomiyaki is not a bookstore! Its like a japanese pancake/pizza where they throw in almost anything inside for flavouring…
Anyway, if you got good food places to recommend hit me up! Share, share!
Till next time,
Much love, xoxo shid.
so it’s been another crazy week. a lot of events, plus funerals.
but with the passing of one, comes the beginnings of another.
just came back from a wedding too, and my mom just returned from an old neighbour’s daughters’ wedding. yes it was two sisters wedding together. thre brother, who happened to also be my ex-schoolmate is apparetnly already married with a three month old baby boy! and he is just one or two years older than me! how shocking! tsk tsk! wonder when it is going to be my turn.
fyi, before i tell you more stories, i decided not to write anything for the sph competition. partly because, i lack the motivation to write and i have nothing to write too. the stroy came out to be pretty un-original. so i just decided to scratch it. no biggie. if inspiration hits one day, i’ll post my story up here.
let’s talk about Two Fat Men. I went there on Friday night, because i was just dyiiiiiiiiing to go there.
alright, here’s my verdict. Should any of you need a place to work, maybe you should try calling two fat men up. because i think they are short of staff. i had to wait to be seated, i had to wait again to be shifted to the smoking area, because they havent cleared the tables yet, and well.. to give them credit the tables were almost all occupied, but for a small place like that i’m sure they can do way better. i had to wait for them to take my order, i had to wait for them to get my bill, basically i had to wait in order to be noticed. but what they lack in service, they make it up by their ambience, and by their food and prices.
well they basically do thai street dishes as well as some typical familiar western finger food like fish and chips, fies and for thai food, green curry, tom yam and the works. i had the green curry chicken, tom yam seafood and a basket of fries. well, the basket of fries is normal, nothing special, but huge portions. great if you just want munchies. the green curry? one of the best i have tasted, though the green curry at amoy still beats it hands down. the thai tom yam though is a let down for me, though hairus said it was allright. for me, it wasnt spicy enough, and lack a certain oompf. they dont have much cocktails on their menu, and i didnt bother asking whether they could do that or this cocktails.. i tried their spring fling which is like a mojito but with vodka and apple juice and lime juice and mit leaves instead. but pretty weak i should say. i guess most people go there for their beers which is quite cheap. ranging from $5-$9 a pint or half pint. on tap is singha and kronesidunnohowtospellblanc. but they do have erdinger, hoegaarden, heineken, guinness.. actually they have a range of beers. and they are pretty cheap too as mentioned. a huge tower of singha = $52. cheap no? actually, i think along east coast road are a couple of bars where it is pretty good and cheap. oh! and have i mentioned? there’s no service charge and gst. another plus point! everything is nett. Two Fat Men is at 376 East Coast Road, near Katong Plaza.
caught transformers 3 the other day. i must say it was pretty boring. imagine, i fell asleep during the movie. the beginning was draggy, the middle was allright, the ending sucked. GRRRRR. and lucky i didnt buy the gold class tickets for it too.. or else i might have just slept through it all. i wont say anything more about the movie because i’m sure there are a few people out there who hasnt watched it yet and i dont want to be a spoilsport. but i’ll give it a 6/10. watching them transform is still cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool.
this past week had me thinking a lot about deaths. what happens afterwards. no no, i’m not talking about the afterlife.. i’m actually talking about the moment that you are dead. let’s say you were to commit suicide, or you were to die due to accident, or illness, or simply an unexpected death. who would be beside you? who would cry for you? who would come to your funeral? how many people would be there? would any of your friends be present? i know this is superficial, but to judge how popular that person is, one usually counts the number of people that turns up to one’s funeral, no?
i know i am not the best of persons, i have my moments. i know a lot of people hate my guts. i have been mean to a lot of people and i can be such a selfish person and a smartypants. but at the same time i know there are a few people out there who do like me for me, or that i bring joy to their life. but i really would like to know, who would attend my funeral. muslim funerals do not care much for a eulogy.. but when i do die (because three things are certain in life, you’ll die, you get disabled or you fall sick, we just dont know when), i think i would like a eulogy. it would be nice to hear nice things about me, funny stories about me, the stupid things i’ve done. it would be nice to be remembered this way. I wouldnt want my eulogy to be sad, i would want it to be fun. it shouldnt start with “Rashidah was a….” it should start with, “it has been a great pleasure and honour knowing Rashidah. She is such a great person, and always witty. Her brain is such a wondrous machine, that we never know what acts she is coming up with next. She always have an active imagination, and plots such naughty plots and pranks on people. She makes wondrous plans to celebrate birthdays, and most of all she has a big heart. she cares for everyone and everything, and even if she doesnt like the person, she will be the first to help should that person require any assistance. of course that being said, she will usually let them have a taste of their own medicine first before coming to their aid. such is rashidah’s manner of making them learn their wrong ways. i use the present tense still while talking about her, because to me, physically she might be gone, but spiritually she is in all of our hearts, in the hearts of everyone who has been touched by her.”
cheh cheh cheh cheh. =) a girl can hope… but life is still too short to talk about deaths.
what do you want you eulogy to say?
till next time,
much love,
xoxo Shid.
I am in my weekly meeting now and i am putting my multitasking skills to the test, my fingers are typing, my ears are listening to boss man and my eyes are trying their best to open. I had a super late night last night with layla and it was a good time catching up. And yes, alcohol was involved. Always a good time when alcohol is around.
Anyway, remember when i said this is going to be a pizza month? Well i have had pizza two times in a row yesterday! The first was during lunch and the second was during drinks! And on monday night me and my super sweet absolutely huggable man went to satisfy my cravings for all things sweet! Or at least we tried to, i still want more desserts.. I am going to try to sum it up as quickly as i can so bear with me for a bit.
Oooh before i start, i told you in an earlier entry that spizza tops my list. Let me tell you why.
When i first saw spizza’s menu i was very surprised to see that each pizza was named after a woman. There was olivia, margerita, victoria, nadia, katerina, isabella, juliana, rashidah etc. Interesting, no? Its like a tribute for women. Damn right. Its about time too! (just so you know, i’m kidding about a pizza named rashidah, but they should add it in no? =) maybe i should put it in their suggestion box.. hmmm..) And spizza serves italian pizza baked in a wood oven and it smells absolutely heavenly! Dont you just love the smell of wood-fired pizza?
The pizza is thin crusted with a perfect amount of cheese and garnished with a generous amount of arugula or this other vegetable that i forgot the name but taste so sweet and nice and crunchy and very fresh! I think its called rucola salad or something. But note to those with dietary restrictions, it is italian pizza so most items on the menu contain some pork.. But there are 2 chicken based pizza as well as a seafood pizza and just a plain cheese pizza. My favourite flavours are the Isabella, Olivia, Sofia and Vittoria. Isabella is with parma ham and rucola salad, Olivia is with salami and chillies, Sofia is seafood based and Vittoria is the one with the spicy chicken sausage. Yum yum! Ohhh.. and they also have a dessert based pizza with chocolate sauce and bananas… somebody scream aphrodisoac please! For those who know me, you should already guess by now that i am in love with this place. And guess what that aphrodisiac of a dessert is called? its Zara! oohhh, Zara….
And suddenly saying all the names of the pizza makes me sound like some kind of voyeur… hmm. Anyway the pizzas are 10 inch and 12 inch sized. For 10 inch you get it at $17 and 12 inch $21. For deliveries only 12 inch pizza available at $22.. And the best part is? Spizza delivers islandwide! For more info you can google spizza or go to spizza!
Okay on to my next pizza treat, we had pizza hut delivered and well i dont think i need to explain much about this.. pizza hut did not have any thin crusted pizzas for deliveries, and since i havent dined in at pizza hut for a long time i dont know whether they still have their thin crusted pizzas. (ps: did you know i used to work at pizza hut as a waitress. it was my first job after secondary school, and that was when life started for me, and i began to encounter my first experience as a minah-minahchi.. i truly lived up to my potential man!) Anyway, pizza hut’s pizza is pan pizza or stuff crust, and i dont really like those kinda pizza because i find that it’s too much bread, and i get full pretty easlily, and i’ll probably just end up picking the toppings off the bread. But my favourite flavour in pizza hut would be chicken supreme and hawaiian and pepperoni! i remember when i used to work at pizza hut and i was working in the kitchen and i could make my own pizzas or baked rice, i used to add alot of those chunky chicken into my pizzas or baked rice because i absolutely love that chicken! which probably comes as no surprise to you that my favourite baked rice at pizza hut is orleans delight. (because of the chicken!) I would have bought the lasagna but i have always found that the lasagna in pizza hut is not worth the price, cause it’s kinda small. anyway, pizza hut deliveries is having this promotion two pan pizzas for $23.90. which i find pretty worth it. and when you’re at it, go add the sweet and spicy drumlets, because it is (okay not to die for) TO FAINT FOR. maybe one of these days, i’d do a review on my chicken experience, because i tell you there’s alot of nice chicken places.
And then came dinner time, and i went to meet layla, but while waiting for her to arrive, i got hungry. I had wanted to have drinks at Ice Cold Beer, my next favourite bar, because of the crispy chicken wings and the ICB pizza which is simply delicious and just the right flavour to go with beers, but ICB was full that night. of course, it was happy hour then which explained the huge crowd, so i ended up at outdoors at peranakan place, which is where alleybar is. Their kitchen is going through a revamp though and the selection of the food menu is actually very little. but guess what they have? they have pizzas! So i ordered myself a chicken paprika pizza (wanted the ham but hairus was around and he is pretty strict dietary food-wise) instead and fries. And what was delivered was a huge ass bowl off huge fries @$6 and a 8 to 10inch pizza which was thin crusted too @$24. Now this thin crust is pretty special too me. It is very crunchy and thin towards the edges like papadam, but moving towards the center of the pizza, the bread became slightly thicker, yet still thin and softer, and the cheese is those melting kind that goes on and on when you pull at it! with tabasco, it is eso perfecto! The toppings are generous too, and i must say the servers are very attentive especially if you’re female. =) Anyway, just so you know, i didnt finish the pizza even though it was very nice, it’s just that there was too much pizza in one day!
I really wanted to tell you bout my midnight monday sweetness at swensons changi airport, but i am abit too tired to type. plus i have a bunch of things i need to do before 3pm today, so thus, (in a singsong voice) “so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, adieu, adieu to you and you and you….”
till i see you again,
much love
xoxo, Shid.
And so the week ends yet again but without much excitement.
But nonetheless i still had such a great week and received such a great boost to my ego i feel i can do just about anything.. I can even scream i’m the king of the world!
There’s three parts to this post, part uno would be a summary of my work, part dos is my foodie experience, and lastly would be my jumbled up random thoughts. So feel free to scroll down and skip to whichever one you want to skip to!
As i was saying, this part i am going to dedicate to work. Oh just so you know, i am going to try and move this blog to become more themed and slightly more systematic.. By being themed is i am going to talk mostly about foodie experiences or places experience or things experience and by way of systematic is by performing an overall update for the week.. I just found out being the slowpoke i am, that i can actually tag my posts! And the reason why i am doing these themes is because me and hairus or me and my friends, we go to plenty of nice places, food places and we check out some nice things and we are really into gadgets sometimes so it’d be nice to give our two cents worth! Heck, i couldnt make it as an investigative journalist but i sure can try to make my words come alive! Plus, in an effort to make my life slightly more structured, i am going to try to organise my life in every aspect and even this blog i’m trying to make changes by making weekly summaries. But if i dont deliver my promise on the weekly summaries and themes, i said i’ll try right? Heheh.
Anyway , i digress. Back to work related. You know i was watching the rookie motogp competition the other day as well as the rugby league and a thought came to me. By the way if you’re feeling impressed that i was watching motogp or rugby, dont. I dont watch them, in fact i was coerced to watch them because mi amor wants to watch them and i wanted to spend time with him and all of that equals i too have to watch. But i learn something. These players, they always have a ritual.. For example rugby, before the guy kicks the ball into the field, he jogs backwards a few steps, turn three times, touch the grass, pause a little, do a quick heel click while jumping and then proceed to kick the ball and it usually always lands where he wants it to. Or the motogp guy who talks to his bike before riding it or go on the bike from his ride side or something.. These people have ritual. And what i have learned is that i actually have a lucky ritual too.. I realised that everytime i close a case, i dont drink the night before or stay up late. And that before the meeting i do not eat, i stay hungry. And that right before the appointment, i do not smoke. And then somehow, the case gets closed without a hitch. As compared to my last case where i didnt follow this through (i actually had a drinking session two nights in a row the day before the appointment) and the case has been postponed.. Grrrr.. Maybe its nothing but this is actually a work in progress, maybe more to a theory in progress, if my theory is right, i’m going to stick to a pre-close ritual man!
On saturday, me and hairus went to eat at skinny pizza at wheelock place. I’ve heard and read great reviews about it and i have been pushing hairus to bring me there to eat and every month when we get our pay we usually would proceed to eat some place we’ve never eaten before as a form of treat for us. This is how i see it though, if you were to ask him he would say its cause he was forced to. =)
Anyway, the service at skinny pizza is great! Its a small cozy place and affordable prices between $18 to $30 for a pizza and pasta and the sides are around $6-$9 and lookout for discounts and special promotions.
We had the squid ink pizza, the chicken sausage ( there is 1metre, 0.5m, 0.25m), hanisaa prawns and truffle fries. Ordinarily eating food that much would make me full, no? But i wasnt. You know why? Okay, i know its called skinny pizza, as the name suggests it would be thin crust pizza and j’adore thin crust! But when we were seated down, we were informed that the crust is more like papadam.. I thought to myself why not.. And then it arrived, and i was a bit disappointed.. Nice is nice but pizzas should be bread and cheese, if there’s no dough there should at least be cheese! All pizzas must have cheese! But my squid ink got no cheese! I have no qualms with the rest, but i just dont like the pizza at skinny pizza… I know i know there are other flavours that had cheese on them but my assumption was all the pizza had cheese! You know the sort, the stringy, melted cheese that doesnt seem to end…. Yumyumyum! But mine had no cheese! Grrrrr..
Anyway i have decided to no longer be a patron of that pizza establishment unless i am going there for the pasta and the meter long sausage (hehehehe), but no sirree, no pizza for me!
Btw, because of this, i have decided to make it pizza of the month month, where i will scour around singapore for great pizza! So far spizza tops my list! Next stop is that pizzeria at marina bay sands!
Oh lastly.. I am sure you are aware that stars have nicknames where the public take the first syllable of the man’s name and join them with the last few syllables of the woman’s name like brad pitt and angelina is brangelina, zac efron and vanessa hudgens would be zanessa… If i were to follow social conformity, i and hairus would be haishidah or haishid. Andy and wati would be anti. Hans and hanis would be hanis. Harminder and sarafeen would be harmafeen… What would be your couple name? =)
Till next time,
Much love
Xoxo shid.
I am on a binge lately, nothing new but i just have this absolutely fantastic desire to just eat. I am hungry most of the times, or it could also just be that i am just craving for certain items. I have been craving for waffles with ice cream for awhile, and though i somewhat substituted that craving with pancakes, its not the same! And the desire for waffles is burning much more sensationally in my tummy!
I have had my nasi lemak, a spur of the moment 2 AM craving that the oh-so-sweet boy has indulged me, but now that i have woken up, i have a sudden craving for chicken! Kfc, arnolds, popeyes and chicken rice!
My sweet tooth cravings have not been satisfied too! I am still craving for cakes with ice cream! Having ben and jerrys chocolate fudge the other day didnt do the trick. I still want cake!
I yearn for seafood again. Piping hot, chilli crab and butter prawns and sting ray and fried mantao buns! Really, just the thought of it makes my mouth water!
I have this deep deep craving for barbequed chicken wings and thin crusted pizza, plain pizza, seafood pizza, the ICB pizza, real calamari rings, nachos with guacomole and best of all i really want to go to chijlis and nandos!
Is there something wrong with me?
